Born in Montana and raised in Hawaii, Maggie Yumi Brown broke into the modeling industry after winning Tyra Banks' Thick and Sexy Top Model Contest. Her work is found in various print and online plus size fashion publications.
After landing her first modeling contract at 14, Crystal Renn was told to lose weight in order to make it in this industry. However, she didn't lose the weight and later emerged as one of the sexiest plus size models around. She has modeled for Vogue and various plus size publications. She was also the first plus size model to appear on the cover of Harper's Bazaar.
Also known as Melissa Aronson, Emme broke industry standards when she became one of the first and highest-earning plus size models. Today, she has a fashion line and has appeared on numerous television programs, including serving as host of Fashion Emergency and the dating show More to Love.
As the daughter of rock legend Steven Tyler, Mia Tyler has made a name of her own in the plus size modeling industry. She started her career when she was 17. She has been a VJ on MTV's House of Style, served as a judge on Pretty Wicked (on the Oxygen Network) and was also featured on Celebrity Fit Club. In 2009, she launched her own clothing line, REVOLUTION 1228.
Even though she finished in seventh place during the third installment of America's Next Top Model, Tocarra Jones has made a name for herself in the plus size modeling industry. She has appeared in numerous advertisements for plus size fashions, as well as on television in the reality show Ultimate Merger. She is also a contributing style editor for Essence magazine.
As the first plus size winner of of America's Next Top Model, Whitney Thompson has modeled for JCPenney, Saks Fifth Avenue and appeared on the cover of In Touch Weekly. In 2009, she was named the number one plus size model by AskMen.com.
Kate Dillon began her career as a size six, though she battled health issues including anorexia during most of her earlier career. After coming to terms with her natural body size, she relaunched her career as a size 14 model, becoming widely successful. Dillon has worked on campaigns for both Lane Bryant and Gucci. She was also a guest star on TV's America's Next Top Model, where she talked with contestants about self-esteem and body image issues.
Kimberly Locke gained recognition as a contestant on the widely watched American Idol show in 2003. Her singing career took off with the hit song 8th World Wonder and she's gone on to produce several successful albums. She was signed at the Ford Company in 2006 as a plus size model and became a Lane Bryant model, modeling their line of Seven jeans.
She's not only a plus size model, but also a prominent singer and actress. As the face of CoverGirl and star of movies like Joyful Noise, Beauty Shop and Last Holiday, Queen Latifah reminds everyone you don't have to be a size 2 to be pretty - or to become a model or succeed in the entertainment industry.
